Your province hired an investigator working from Florida. Seriously?

Did you hear about this teacher investigator working from Florida?

Morning from the Automobile City — here's what's growing in Steinbach.

You know, sometimes the news from Winnipeg just makes you shake your head. The premier announced this week that the province "cut ties" with their first appointee to investigate teacher misconduct because, get this, she was apparently doing the job from Florida. Not just working remotely, but from *Florida*. Our provincial government hired someone for a critical role, dealing with serious allegations involving Manitoba children, and they were, reportedly, soaking up the sun instead of being here, doing the work.

It really makes you wonder about the oversight. Here in Steinbach, when Barkman Concrete needs a new project manager or Loewen Windows is expanding their line, you can bet your bottom dollar they're hiring someone who's going to be on-site, in the community, understanding the local context. We're a city that prides itself on hard work and being present. Imagine if one of the Main Street auto dealerships tried to manage their inventory from a beach chair in Fort Lauderdale. It just wouldn't fly. It speaks to a level of disconnect from the realities of our province that's frankly, pretty frustrating.

* **Trust and Accountability:** This isn't just about a paycheck; it's about trust. When the province is investigating serious matters, the public expects those investigators to be fully engaged and accessible, not halfway across the continent.

* **Local Impact:** While not directly in Steinbach, this kind of provincial misstep chips away at confidence in government services everywhere, including here in the southeast. We want effective, accountable governance, especially when it concerns something as vital as school safety.

* **The Steinbach Standard:** Our community, with its 480 Chamber members and strong work ethic, operates on a principle of direct engagement. We expect the same from those serving our province.

This kind of story just highlights why we need diligent, on-the-ground leadership. We're building a vibrant, growing city here in Steinbach, adding thousands of new residents and businesses, and we need provincial partners who are equally invested and present.
