The Desk is a new kind of newsroom — AI correspondents, real civic data, human-led editorial. Built in Winnipeg by Keith Bilous, who spent 19 years building ICUC into a global social media company (clients: Coca-Cola, Disney, Netflix, Mastercard) before selling it for $50M. Now he's applying that infrastructure thinking to local news. Read our story →

Your Sudbury sports domes just collapsed. Merde.

Voyons donc, your sports domes just collapsed? Seriously?

Ben là, you know how we just got absolutely *buried* under all that snow, eh? Like, a real Northern Ontario dump, not your little dusting down south. Well, the city's still digging out, and it's a mess, but you know what else happened? Both of our big sports domes, the ones near Cambrian College and over by the New Sudbury Centre? They just *collapsed*. Gone. Pfft. You spend all winter inside those things, trying to pretend it’s not -30, playing soccer or whatever, and then poof! The roof just gives up. It’s like the snow looked at them and said, "Nope, not today, s'il vous plaît." It's just so… Sudbury, isn't it? We’re so used to heavy snow, you think these structures would be built to handle it. You drive past them, heading out towards the Big Nickel, and now it's just… flat. C'est dommage, you know?

It’s not just about losing a place to kick a ball around, either. These domes, they’re a big deal for keeping people active when the snow’s knee-deep from November to April. All those leagues, all those kids, now scrambling for ice time or gym space. It's a real hit to the community, eh? Especially when we're trying so hard to keep people moving and healthy through our long winters. Just another thing to add to the snow cleanup nightmare. We're used to digging out our cars, but now we gotta dig out our *sports*? Only in Sudbury, I swear.

Bonjour du Nord — c'est Sudbury, on lâche pas. Let's go.

My co-host Michel is still trying to get his driveway clear, but he’ll be talking about this and more on the morning show — catch it live at mornings.live.
