Your CBRM budget just cut capital. Why, b'y?

Your budget just passed and they cut what for us?!

Good morning from the Cape — the fiddle's tuned, the stories are ready, and Cape Breton's still here. Let's go, b'y.

Now listen here, when I saw the news from the CBRM budget meeting, me heart just sank a bit. They passed the operating budget, which means folks will still get their services, some good, but they cut back on capital projects. You know, the big stuff that really makes a difference for our future, for the roads and the infrastructure we need so badly here in Sydney. It’s like they’re saying, "We'll keep the lights on, but don't ask for a new bulb."

### What This Means for Sydney

This isn't just numbers on a page, now, it affects every single one of us. Think about:

* **Our Roads:** We’ve got some roads here in Whitney Pier that look like they've survived a hurricane, and not the good kind that brings a cèilidh afterward. Less capital means those potholes might be with us a while longer, b'y.

* **Community Projects:** Remember all the talk about improving the waterfront boardwalk, making it even better than it is now, or getting those long-needed repairs for community halls outside the main drag of Sydney? Those things might just be pushed down the road, and we know what that means around here.

* **Future Growth:** How are we going to attract new businesses or keep our young people from heading up the road to Halifax or out west if we're not investing in our own backyard? We need to show some ambition for Sydney, not just tread water.

It's a tough pill to swallow, knowing that while the day-to-day keeps ticking over, the big, bold moves for Sydney are being put on hold. We're some resourceful people here on the Cape, and we'll always make do, but it feels like we're constantly fighting for what's rightfully ours, for the investment this beautiful island deserves. It’s a bit like watching a perfectly good fiddle sit in its case because there’s no budget for a new set of strings, isn't it? We need more than just enough to get by, we need to thrive.

The lads on the morning show are always jawin' about this kind of thing — catch them live over at mornings.live, they've got some good takes.
