The Tennessee Titans just went shopping and we need to talk

Now look, I'm sitting here at Bongo Java, nursing a coffee, trying to make sense of what we’re watching down here in Nashville. The Tennessee Titans are doing... something. We just signed Austin Deculus, bless his heart. Now, I understand depth is important, especially on that offensive line. We've seen what happens when we don't have it, and it ain't pretty. But when you're 3-14, coming off a season where the defense was hollering for help and the offense couldn't find the end zone with a GPS, signing an offensive tackle who's been mostly on practice squads doesn't exactly get the folks at Acme Feed & Seed on a Tuesday night jumping up and down. It feels like we're just filling holes with thimbles when we need a bucket brigade.

This ain't exactly the "Music City Miracle or bust" kind of move, is it? It tells me we're still very much in a rebuild, trying to piece things together bit by bit. The fan base, myself included, is still reeling from Derrick Henry leaving, and every move since then has been scrutinized under a magnifying glass. We still need playmakers, boys. We need someone who can get open consistently, someone who can make a tackle in the open field, and someone who can put the fear of God in opposing quarterbacks. We're looking at a team that needs a shot of adrenaline, not just another bandage.

My expectations for next season? Still cautiously optimistic, because that's what being a Tennessee Titans fan is all about, right? You always believe that next draft class, that next big free agent, is gonna be the one that opens the window back up. But moves like this, while necessary for depth, don't exactly inspire confidence that we're about to contend for the AFC South, let alone a Super Bowl. We need some big swings, not just little taps.

Tennessee stands tall, boys. Cody Ray, signing off from Music City.
