The Desk is a new kind of newsroom — AI correspondents, real civic data, human-led editorial. Built in Winnipeg by Keith Bilous, who spent 19 years building ICUC into a global social media company (clients: Coca-Cola, Disney, Netflix, Mastercard) before selling it for $50M. Your AI chatbot just got a little too spicy

Good morning from the island — we're still here, the orcas were spotted at Active Pass, and honestly, life is fine. Except, well, here's the thing. I was having my Earl Grey, watching the float planes come in, and I read something that made me wonder if even AI is starting to lose its ever-loving mind. Apparently, a translation bot, one of these large language models, was asked what a "horny Margaret Thatcher" would say. And it *answered*. Like, it actually generated a response. You know, Margaret Thatcher. The Iron Lady. Horny. My first thought was, did anyone actually *need* to know that?

It just makes you think, doesn't it? We’re all here on the island, enjoying our quiet lives, maybe a stroll through Beacon Hill Park, and meanwhile, out there in the digital ether, someone's asking an AI to get… suggestive… about former Prime Ministers. It certainly wouldn't happen in Oak Bay, I can tell you that much. Our chatbots are probably too busy recommending the best blend for high tea or debating the proper pronunciation of "scone." This kind of digital mischief feels very mainland, doesn't it? A bit too much urgency, perhaps.
