Your City Hall just approved a $20.65M Symons Valley Ranch plan.

Your city hall just approved a bunch of new stuff

Alright, Calgary, let’s talk brass tacks about what went down at City Hall this week, specifically with the Calgary Planning Commission. They were busy on March 12th, giving the green light to a couple of big reports.

For real though, these aren’t just rubber stamps. We saw multiple motions pass, with folks like Nathan Hawryluk, Thom Mahler, Charles Boechler, Katherine Wagner, and Chris Hardwicke all voting 'Yes' on reports CPC2026-0209 and CPC2026-0143. What that means is they’re recommending Council give three readings to these proposals. These are the steps to getting new developments and land use changes actually built and approved in our city.

### What Does This Mean for You?

Basically, the Planning Commission is doing its job of setting the stage for future growth. Think of it like mapping out where the next big residential area might pop up, or how commercial spaces in a place like, say, Symons Valley Ranch might evolve. That Symons Valley Ranch, by the way, has one property assessed at a cool $20.65 million. It's a prime piece of land up there, and these approvals are the first step in deciding what gets built on it.

This is all about how Calgary is going to grow, where the next batch of houses will go, and what our city will look like a few years down the line. Keep an eye on Council's next steps – they’ll be the ones giving these the final thumbs up or down.
