You'll want to hear what your City Hall approved
Vancouver City Council quietly gave the green light to a short-term rental application this past Tuesday, April 21st, for an address at 1801-1788 Columbia Street. The decision, concerning Business Licence Application No. AL0188353, was carried unanimously by the councillors present.
It’s interesting because Councillor R. Bligh was marked absent for that vote, as well as for the Public Hearing on April 14th regarding the CD-1 (363) Text Amendment for Canada Place. A unanimous vote when one councillor is away just… lands differently, doesn't it? It means every councillor there, including B. Montague, L. Zhou, and S. Orr, supported it.
Meanwhile, over in the building permit world, some things are changing shape. We saw a permit issued May 11th to demolish an existing Single Detached House from 1925 on 2746 W 41st Avenue, a $40,000 job. And on the same day, a brand new two-storey laneway house for $250,000 got the go-ahead for 459 E 57th Avenue. This churn is constant.
It's a familiar Vancouver story, isn't it? One hand approves a new short-term rental, while the other clears space for new builds, or takes down old ones. Beautiful out here. Complicated in here. That's the coast.
