What's really popping up in your neighbourhood?
Good morning from the island — we're still here, the orcas were spotted at Active Pass, and honestly, life is fine. We had a lovely misty morning down by the Dallas Road waterfront, truly just a gentle start to the day.
Well, here's the thing about what your City Hall has been up to. It appears the sweet tooth of Victoria is about to get a bit more mobile, and perhaps a touch more retro. HAZELS ICE CREAM LTD has secured two new mobile bicycle vendor licenses for Victoria, according to the recent business license data. That’s Licenses #40784 and #40447, both for mobile operations across V8W 1P6. It begs the question: how many ice cream bicycles does one city need? And will they be those charming old-fashioned types with the bells? One hopes.
### Arcade Dreams and Basement Suites
Beyond the impending ice cream invasion, there's a new hub for digital entertainment on the horizon. ARCADIA, an amusement centre, has its license (#48095) for 707 Johnson Street, V8W 1M8. It’s always interesting to see how the downtown core shifts, isn't it? From antique shops on Fort Street to arcades on Johnson.
On the housing front, City Hall's building permits show some movement in creating more local living spaces. Permit #EP083395 details an electrical permit for $8,200 to remove existing basement wiring and wire in a new basement suite. This includes a bathroom, storage, two bedrooms, a new kitchen area, and baseboard heating. It’s a small step, of course, but every new suite helps. We're always wondering where everyone will live, aren't we?
This all tells us a story about Victoria: a city balancing new entertainment and housing needs while making sure we can still get our ice cream fix on a sunny day. Watch for these new businesses to pop up soon – you’ll certainly know when the ice cream bikes are rolling.
