West Alexander just had a 2 AM fire. What happened?

Firefighters responded to a West Alexander blaze last night

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.

Okay, let's get into what's happening on the ground here in Winnipeg, hey? Our real-time civic intelligence monitors show a structure fire was reported in the West Alexander neighbourhood overnight, according to Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) dispatch records. The incident, number 2026058450, was logged at 2:11 AM on April 20th, 2026, within the Point Douglas ward. Multiple units, including 45, 5, and 91, responded. The good news is, it looks like WFPS had it resolved by 5:08 AM this morning, hey.

### What else the city's talking about

Over on the non-emergency front, it looks like "Traffic Signal Malfunction" is the top complaint to 311 today, with two calls logged in the last 24 hours. That's out of nine total 311 calls made today, according to the civic complaints monitor. You know how it is when you're trying to get across Portage and Main, and those signals are out of whack. It can really throw a wrench in your morning commute.

Also, four new liquor license applications were posted this week, including one for Bistro Dansk and another for Ukrainian House. It’s always good to see new places opening up, especially places that add to our city's incredible food scene. We'll be keeping an eye on those to see what's next for our neighbourhoods.
