Lots of fires in Chalmers this morning, hey?
Good morning, Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful.
### Fire Crews Working Hard in Chalmers and William Whyte
It's been a busy night and morning for our Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, hey? Real-time civic intelligence monitors, updated at 12:25 PM on April 29, 2026, show that multiple structure fires were reported in the Chalmers neighbourhood, which is in the Elmwood - East Kildonan ward. WFPS had six separate incidents in Chalmers since 4:00 AM. One of those, incident 2026064308, reported at 5:48 AM, is still active. Another structure fire, incident 2026064325, was reported at 7:17 AM in William Whyte, in the Mynarski ward, and that one is also still active.
These are not small calls, either. For incident 2026064308 in Chalmers, units D24, E2, E21, E3, L2, and R6 were dispatched. For the William Whyte fire, unit R5 is on scene. We'll be keeping an eye on these active incidents throughout the day. The WFPS media release from April 28, 2026, also mentioned recent fires on Powers Street and Qu’Appelle Avenue, showing just how relentless our firefighters' work is, hey.
What does this mean for us? It means our first responders are working non-stop, often battling multiple blazes at once to keep our communities safe, especially in these older, denser neighbourhoods. Always good to remember their efforts.
