You gotta watch for this fire in Assiniboia Downs, hey.
Good morning, Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful.
We're starting with some urgent news this morning, hey. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is actively responding to a structure fire in Assiniboia Downs. WFPS dispatch records, updated at 2026-05-28T07:47:15.000, show incident 2026081193 is still active in the Charleswood - Tuxedo - Westwood ward. A full compliment of units are on scene including E10, L1, and R11. This is the second structure fire reported in Assiniboia Downs in less than ten minutes this morning, with the first incident at 2026-05-28T07:53:00.000 now resolved.
Beyond that, the civic intelligence monitor also flagged an unusually high emergency call volume this morning, hey. Between 8 AM and 9 AM today, May 28, 2026, there were 28 emergency calls made to the city. That's nearly double the typical rate of around 15 calls per hour. We'll be keeping a close eye on what's causing this surge.
And hey, a hazmat response is underway in William Whyte, in the Mynarski ward, as of 2026-05-28T08:57:29.000. Unit E6 is on site.
On the 311 front, the top complaint received by the city in the last 24 hours is "Housing Complaint - Long Grass/Weeds_vof," with seven calls. This is a common one as the weather warms up and people get outside more, hey. Expect the city to address these complaints as part of their Neighbourhood Action Teams initiative, which they announced yesterday, May 27, 2026.
