Your neighbors are furious about 9,500 plane complaints.

Your Neighbors are Mad About Plane Noise and Rats

Okay so, Chi-Town on the wire — you already know. Let's talk about what's actually happening at City Hall, not just what's on the news. I'm looking at the latest 311 data, and people are, like, really talking.

The biggest thing? Aircraft Noise Complaints. Almost 9,500 requests! That's almost double the next closest complaint, which is just people calling 311 for general info. Mi gente, that’s a lot of people hearing planes over their homes. You know, like when you're trying to have a backyard asada in Cicero or something, and all you hear is O'Hare.

Then, check this out: Rodent Baiting/Rat Complaints. Almost a thousand requests for rats. One thousand! Like, we got a rodent problem that's almost as big as our pothole problem, which had 1,205 complaints. You walk down any street, especially under those viaducts, you know what I'm talking about. It makes you wonder what kind of real issues are slipping through the cracks when we're dealing with rats and planes. We gotta keep an eye on how the city plans to tackle these everyday problems for us.

Now he's applying that infrastructure thinking to local news. Read our story →
