Your City Hall is approving more multiplexes.
It's been a busy week for Vancouver’s planning department, issuing permits for several new low-density housing projects. On April 29th, building permits were issued for multiple dwellings, or multiplexes, at 3114 and 3116 Graveley Street, totaling over $1.1 million in construction value. Another pair popped up at 2548 and 2550 Oxford Street, with a combined value of just over $1 million.
These aren't skyscrapers, of course. These are the kinds of projects that slide into existing neighbourhoods, often replacing older Vancouver Specials with multi-unit buildings. It's a quiet shift, but it adds density without completely altering the streetscape. It's a bit like watching the tide come in, slowly, one wave at a time. The push for more housing options, even these smaller ones, is a constant hum around here.
Meanwhile, a short-term rental at 1801-1788 Columbia Street secured its business license on April 21st, carried unanimously by council members present. Councillor R Bligh was absent from that vote, as well as a public hearing on April 14th regarding Canada Place and West Waterfront Road. It’s always interesting to see who shows up for what.
