You won't believe what your City Hall approved for ice cream
Good morning from the island — we're still here, the orcas were spotted at Active Pass, and honestly, life is fine. Well, here's the thing about your local City Hall. Sometimes the most interesting bits aren't the grand pronouncements, are they? It's the small, everyday approvals that paint a picture of what's bubbling up.
Take, for instance, the recent business licences. Two of them, both for HAZELS ICE CREAM LTD, and both listed as a "BICYCLE VENDOR" at a mobile business address. Licence numbers 40784 and 40447. This isn't just one new ice cream cart, is it? This is two, ready to pedal through our streets, probably looking for a prime spot near Beacon Hill Park or maybe even down by the Inner Harbour where the float planes land. It suggests a certain optimism, doesn't it? A belief that our Victoria summers, however fleeting, are ripe for a double scoop.
* HAZELS ICE CREAM LTD (BICYCLE VENDOR) at BUSINESS - MOBILE, Victoria BC – Licences #40784 and #40447
* DOWNTOWN VETERINARY CLINIC at 736 Caledonia Ave, Victoria BC – Licence #22734
* ARCADIA (Amusement Centre) at 707 Johnson St, Victoria BC – Licence #48095
Beyond the sweet treats, we also see new life for our furry friends with the DOWNTOWN VETERINARY CLINIC opening at 736 Caledonia Avenue, and a new amusement centre, ARCADIA, finding its home at 707 Johnson Street. It seems Victoria is preparing for both the whimsy of summer and the practical needs of its residents, all at once. What kind of new delights will these bicycle vendors bring to our neighbourhoods? I suppose we'll simply have to wait and taste.
